Dr. Mary Nyangasi serves as the Technical Lead for the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative at the Global Cancer Programme in Geneva, Switzerland providing leadership, guidance and technical support to Member States. She holds an MBChB from the University of Nairobi, an MPH from Kenyatta University and MSc inTransformative Oncology from the University of Manchester in UK. She has professional experience spanning 15 years in oncology starting from a clinical residency program at Kenyatta National Hospital. As the immediate former Head of the National Cancer Control Program in Kenya, she led the formulation of Kenya’s first Cancer Policy, National Cancer Control Strategies, flagship projects for decentralization with establishment of 3 regional cancer centres, and scale-up of cervical and breast cancer programs. In 2021, she chaired Kenya´s first National Cancer Taskforce. As an advocate of women´s health, her main interests are in preventive oncology, health policy and systems strengthening. She serves in Scientific Committee for the European Code Against Cancer, is a member of KESHO, ASCO; AORTIC and has published in various peer-reviewed journals.
